Pg 8 Crafts & Fine Arts Festival, Aug 18 & 19 More than 160 juried crafters and fine artists from throughout the country will offer their latest works at the 13 th annual Collingswood Crafts and Fine Arts Festival on August 18 and 19 along Haddon Ave! Selected each year, these respected artisans will offer contemporary works of wood, clay, glass, metal and fiber for sale - the newest in beautiful craft and fine art. That weekend, find exquisite jewelry (fine and fashion), hand- woven clothing, leather belts and handbags, stained and blown glass, metal yard sculpture, turned wooden bowls, unique outfits for children and so much more. Ceramics for home or garden, handcrafted furniture, original watercolor paintings, oils, collage or fine photographs, heirloom toys or whimsical gifts that you have never seen before will all be found beneath the billowing white tents along Collingswood’s handsome, historic main street. Festival hours each day are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. “It’s a wonderful show,” said Commissioner Joan Leonard. “You can spend hours strolling and see something different on each block, from high end pieces right down to artisan crafts. It’s a perfect weekend to enjoy our businesses as well.” Al fresco dining makes the show festive as well. Munch on treats at unique food tents as you stroll. Be sure to save room for desserts like glazed almonds, smoothies, artisan cannoli, funnel cake or shaved ice with tropical fruit. Stop in a café or local restaurant for a relaxing break. With more than a dozen fine restaurants to choose from, festival-goers can savor Italian SHOP LOCAL Cash Mob event scheduled for Sept specialties, sumptuous seafood, Asian-fusion delicacies, south-of- the-border platters, Indian dishes, gourmet sandwiches or the all- American burger in town. Vol. 22, No. 3 - Summer 2018 The weekend of August 18 and 19 in Collingswood is filled with billowing tents, beautiful art, live music and thousands of shoppers for the annual Crafts and Fine Arts Festival. As day one of the festival officially wraps at 5 p.m., Collingswood’s main shopping and dining district remains closed to traffic for a post-festival party. This year, Haddon Ave will again come alive at five on August 18 for the second Collingswood Market too! Family art activities include ceramic tile painting, sand art, face painting and make-and-take crafts. Excellent craft and art buying opportunities will be offered at the silent auction tent of items donated by festival artists. Proceeds will benefit the Ronald McDonald House of Southern NJ. Night! There will be evening dining specials, entertainment, live music, games and surprises for families and guests. After a day of fine art, Collingswood keeps the party going that evening! This is the “afterparty” for the annual Collingswood Crafts and Fine Arts festival – so while some festival crafters choose to stay open, the focus is on Collingswood businesses and merchant-driven events. Roughly half of the daytime crafter and artists will remain open in the evening – but there is lots more to do all along Collingswood’s downtown. “We saw an opportunity to feature our businesses and bring our community together on what would have been an otherwise closed street,” said Mayor James Maley. “Last year, what was once a dead night in town was packed - it was a great lift for businesses and a chance for everyone to come together over the summer.” Saturday night of the festival, Collingswood merchants will fill the empty streets for a sidewalk sale. Guests can catch an outdoor movie or mini-concert, play games and enjoy art. There will be interactive circus activities for children and adults giving you the opportunity to safely try tightwire walking, juggling and plate spinning with the assistance of professional performers.
